Captive Unicorn Publications has partnered with Liberator, Inc. a brand leader is the emerging sexual health and wellness industry, to create the Liberator Erotic Library.  This all-electronic library presents high-quality works of both erotic romance and classic erotic fiction.  

The Liberator Erotic Library includes works in four lengths, as measured by computer word count:

• Flash / Serials     1,000 – 4,000
• Mini-novella                 4,000 – 15,000
• Novella                        15,000 – 30,000
• Novel                           30,001 – 55,000
• Novel+                         55,000 – 75,000
  

The Liberator Erotic Library is heavily focused on shorter works which can be read in one or two sittings.  A limited number of Novel and Novel+ length works will be published each year.

All queries will receive one of two responses, depending on our interest:

• We appreciate your query but we are not interested in further consideration of this work
• We would like to see more:
  • For mini-novella and novella works, we will typically request the full manuscript
  • For novel and novel+ works, we will typically request the first three chapters and a synopsis of no more than 5 pages

Our goal is to respond to all queries within 6 weeks, subject to query volume.

Queries must not include attachments - those with attachments will be discarded and will not be acknowledged. All content must be included in the body of your email. 

Your subject line must be:  Query - <1 or 2 character code for Collection Targeted (e.g. IE for Intimate Explorations)> - <Working Title of Manuscript>.

Example of proper subject line: Query - IE - Enlivening our Dead Bedroom. Queries not following guidelines will not be considered.

Your query email must include the following elements in 12pt. font (Times New Roman or Calibri preferred), clearly labeled:

• Your name, email address, and phone number
• Website, blog, Facebook, Twitter
• Previous publishing experience (if any)
• Word count of your manuscript (for example, 18,393 words)
• Working title of your manuscript
• Collection you are targeting (see descriptions below)
• Estimated heat level (see descriptions below)
• For works over 4,000 words:  Manuscript synopsis (2500 words maximum) 
• For flash and serial fiction ONLY:  Full manuscript / First serial installment (indicate total number of installments) -- Please note the manuscript MUST be in the body of your email - NO Attachments.  If you want to send an attachment, query first.

Make sure your manuscript synopsis has proper formatting with clear paragraph breaks. It is not necessary to double space your query.

• Queries for works over 4,000 words without a manuscript synopsis will be automatically rejected.
• Queries which are difficult to read will be automatically rejected. 
• Queries with multiple typos or grammatical errors will be automatically rejected.
• Queries with attachments will be automatically rejected.

General Liberator Erotic Library Guidelines

The following guidelines apply to works in all works within the Liberator Erotic Library.

• Works must have a clearly defined plot which results in character development either in a sexual or emotional context, or preferably, both
• Sex must be prominent and explicit, with rich descriptions of the characters’ mental and physical experiences
• A romantic relationship between the primary characters is high encouraged, but not required
• Characters may be married or single and of any sexual orientation
• Submissions may not contains:  pedophilia, incest, bestiality or necrophilia
• Consensual sex only (references to non-consensual sex must be used for character development only and not in the context of the current action)
• All characters involved in sexual situations must be over the age of 18 when the sex took place.  
• Integration of Liberator™ branded products is acceptable, but not required; when included, usage must enhance the pleasure of the characters and be specifically related to the plot or character journey.  References must be subtle, not blatant.

Liberator Erotic Library Heat Levels

The Liberator Erotic Library contains works to appeal to a wide range of sexual interests, although our primary focus is heat levels 3 - 5.  A heat level should be specified in your query.

• Level 1: Mainstream audience. Traditional sex; spicy but not course language.
• Level 2: Mainstream audience. Heavy sexual tension with explicit details. Likely to contain coarse or adult language.
• Level 3: Erotic audience - not for delicate readers. Graphic sex. Adult sexual language throughout.
• Level 4: Erotic audience – will offend some readers. Contains many sexual encounters described in explicit adult language. Often contains unconventional sex, including anal, ménage and light bondage.
• Level 5: Erotic audience with an appreciation for hardcore sexual literature. Extreme sex scenes, with a significant amount of unconventional sex including fetish, BDSM, and extensive ménage.  Very explicit sexual language.  

Current Liberator Erotic Library Collections

Captive Unicorn Publications is actively seeking works for the following four Liberator Erotic Library collections.  Other collections will be added in the future so we encourage writers to check back for our most current interests.  Submissions which do not fit our current collections will not be considered.  All queries must target a specific collection and must fit the requirements specified for that collection.

Love Artist (LA) Collection

This collection features shorter works (4000 – 10,000 words) designed to attract, although not exclusive to, male readers who may have a shorter attention span and want quicker gratification from their reading experience.  These shorter works feature a couple but a single point of view is typically desired and can be either male or female.  Exploration of fantasies, whether in the flesh or imagined, play well in this collection.

Intimate Explorations (IE) Collection

This collection focuses on playful expressions of intimacy which deepen the relationship or intensity of the interaction between couples.  Sex is between a couple only, although it may be within or outside of a committed relationship.  The primary focus is on a sensual, pleasurable experience, with mutual exploration of new techniques, toys, playful restraints or other creative sexual activities.  The plot focuses on the growth of the couple, sexually and/or emotionally.  A subset of this collection is the Enlivenment line, featuring stories of established, potentially older couples looking to re-invigorate their sexual appetites or in search of deeper mutual fulfillment.  While on-going commitment is not essential in these works, Happy for Now (HFN) or Happy Ever After (HEA) endings are strongly encouraged. All Enlivenment line works should feature committed couples and HEA ending. Works can range from 10,000 word novellas to full-length fiction of up to 75,000 words.  Works under 30,000 are preferred.

Bedroom Adventures (BA) Collection

This collection adds new dimensions to a relationship, stepping up the adventure level from playful enhancements in traditional lovemaking to sexual adventures as a form of recreation via multiple partners, fetish play, club play and other creative sexual activities.  The sky is the limit, so long as all play heightens the relationship and sexual fulfillment of the couple, not just one individual.  As with the Intimate Explorations Collection described above, the Enlivenment line focuses on mature, committed relationships which are expanded through sexual recreation.   Bisexual play is welcome and encouraged, but the primary couple should be M/F.   HFN for the primary couple is encouraged and HEA is a plus, although not required except in the Enlivenment line.  Works may range from 10,000 – 75,000 words and as with the Intimate Explorations Collection, shorter works are favored.

Rainbow (R) Collection

This collection may include elements of any of the previous collections, but the primary couple (or fantasies in solo play) must be M/M or F/F.  All male or all female ménage will also be considered.  HFN endings are encouraged, but not required.  Works in this collection may range from 4,000 words, for Love Artist type works to 75,000 words to works similar to the Intimate Explorations or Bedroom Adventures collections.  Consistent with the overall composition of our library, shorter works are preferred.
